Our Physicians
Samuel J. Laufer, M.D., Medical Director:
After attending medical school at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Laufer completed his internship and orthopedic residencies at the university-affiliated hospitals of UCLA, Cornell, and the University of Miami. He completed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto. Dr. Laufer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America.
Dr. Laufer is the Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick campus, and oversees their Children's Complex Pediatric Orthopedic Program. He serves on a number of hospital committees. Dr. Laufer's special interests include scoliosis and general pediatric orthopedic care.
J.Andrew Bowe, M.D.
Dr. Bowe’s medical school training was completed at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. His orthopedic surgical training and pediatric orthopedic fellowship were completed at the University of Virginia and Tufts-New England Medical Center.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America.
Dr. Bowe directs several specialized clinics in hospitals and special needs schools around the state. His main interests lie in the treatment of scoliosis, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and general pediatric orthopedic care.
John J. McKeon, M.D.
Dr. McKeon has practied pediatric orthopedics for twenty-five years with major teaching and administrative responsibilities at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School Department of Orthopedics and St. Barnabas Healthcare System-Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. He has joined our Group in the full bloom of a long and esteemed career and continues his dedication to pediatric orthopedic care.
After attending college at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, New Jersey, Dr. McKeon continued his education at New Jersey Medical School in Newark. His residency was completed at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. His Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship training was completed at Alfred I. Dupont Institute in Wilmington Delaware. Dr. McKeon has served as a dedicated academician with University Hospital-UMDNJ for most of his profession and has established a loyal patient base in his successful private practice. His special interests include general pediatric orthopedics and children's hip and foot disease.
Philip J. Therrien, M.D.
After attending college at Bowdoin in Maine, Dr. Therrien continued his education at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His residency was at the University of Connecticut Hartford Hospital. His Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship training was completed at the Children’s Hospital of Boston.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America. Dr. Therrien is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Dr. Therrien runs the Children’s Specialized Pediatric Orthopedic Program in Mountainside. He specializes in cerebral palsy, hip dysplasia, gait abnormalities, and general pediatric orthopedic care.
David S. Weisman, M.D.
Dr. Weisman's medical school training was completed at the University of Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ). Dr. Weisman completed a surgical internship at Monmouth Medical Center, residency at UMDNJ and a Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America.
Heather W. Harnly, M.D.
Dr. Harnly's medical school training was completed at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her orthopedic surgical training was completed at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After residency, Dr. Harnly completed a sports medicine sub-specialty fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Harnly continued her training with a second sub-specialty fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Harnly's special interests involve general pediatric orthopedics as well as pediatric and adolescent sports medicine including arthroscopic surgery; ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL injuries of the knee; musculoskeletal injuries; and shoulder problems.
Thomas G. McPartland, M.D.
Dr. McPartland's medical school training was completed at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. After residency, Dr. McPartland completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Children's Hospital Boston-Harvard Medical School. His interests involve general pediatric orthopedic care, spinal deformities, hip and pelvic deformity, correction of limb deformity, clinical research and teaching. Dr. McPartland is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Steven E. Adolfsen, M.D. Dr. Adolfsen completed his medical school training at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. He completed his residency at Yale University and then completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. Dr. Adolfsen is interested in general pedatric orthopaedic care, spinal deformity, pediatric trauma, and lower limb deformity.
